« I discovered the passion for music from my father Bruno who was a harmonica player and from my grandmother Ester, a singer to the popular "Maggi" of the Emilian Apennini Mountains: a context of tradition and music that has accompanied me since childhood and allowed me to live in an interesting musical environment.
I began my concert career at the age of 16, attracting international attention at the "Czerny" competition in 1984. In the same year I won the national competitions "Coppa Pianisti d'Italia" and "Città di Albenga". In the years between 1992 and 1996 I was recognized and won the European competitions “F. Schubert, City of Moncalieri” and “G. Gandolfi".
I graduated in piano cum laude at the "O. Vecchi Conservatory" in Modena, where I was under the guidance of Enza Iori. I continued my studies with Maestro Isacco Rinaldi, assistant and friend of Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli. Then I attended the specialized courses of the "Mozarteum" in Salzburg and studied under the following pianists, Piero Guarino, Roberto Szidon, Marisa Somma and Sergio Fiorentino. I studied Composition at the “G. Verdi” Conservatory in Milan with Adriano Guarnieri and then at the “A. Boito Conservatory" in Parma with Giorgio Tosi. I completed my studies and graduated with full marks in 2003. At the Parma Conservatory I also studied Conducting and Harpsichord. In nov. 2024 I participated at the London Conducting Workshop, an international masterclass (with Luigi Pagliarini, John Farrer, and Luciano Acocella).
Since 1985 I have carried out an intense concert activity (as a soloist and in chamber music), which have led me to important sites of art and music.
{ A partial list of concerts include: Teatro Comunale di Modena. Sala Verdi in Parma.Philharmonic Academy of Bologna. Ravello Concert Society - regularly invited since 1995- ongoing. Auditorium "N. Rota" of Bari. Church of S. Maria della Pietà in Venice. }
{ A partial list of European tours and festivals, starting in 1993 in Bulgaria, at the invitation of the Balkanton record company - Croatia for UNICEF - The “Mozart Nacht und Tag” in Turin/Torino - The Piano City Milano... }
In the turbulent year of 2020, despite the suspension of almost all concert activities due to the covid-19 pandemic, I made two collaborations during the summer opening period. One with the writer Roberto Cotroneo at the presentation of the essay “the Daemon of perfection”, dedicated to Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli, at the Festival "La Festa del Racconto" in Carpi. The second as artistic director of the musical projects "KaleidosKopio" (* 2020) and "Free to Be" (* 2021 - part of the international JR InsideOut proj.) for the Philosophy Festival of Modena.
Although primarily I'm a performer, I have composed music throughout my career. I wrote choral compositions and of piano and chamber music. For example, in 2008 I composed the “Messa Gesù Redentore” for solos, choir and instruments. This work was a dedication of the new Gesù Redentore church in Modena, and the work of the architect Mauro Galantino (National Competition of the CEI). In 2014 I composed original music and chamber transcriptions for "La cena di Babette", based on a text by K. Blixen and participation by Amanda Sandrelli. In 2016 I set to music the fairy tale "The adventures of Bosco Felice", a project by the Kaiti Expansion Agency for the Bismantova Theater in Castelnuovo Monti (RE).
I regularly collaborate with the violinist Neri Grassini, the flutist Giovanni Mareggini and with the accordionist Paolo Gandolfi. I also have to my credit collaborations with artists such as Marina Coli, Corrado Tedeschi, and Paola Gassman.
I am currently also the director of the choir "Scuola corale G. Puccini". »
